FREAK WEEK 2026April 5 — 11, 2026
This marks our sixth year hosting this event. Started in 2019 as a Halloween fest for the NCT community, the event opened to all kpop fandoms in October 2024.For those unfamiliar with the ethos of Spookfest, the event is held annually to embrace themes that creators may typically be scared to create: the uncomfortable, squicky, taboo, and so forth. The chosen themes are designed to be guideposts to inspire you. So long as you feel your work adheres to the themes and is "in the spirit" of the event, we welcome you with open arms. Our philosophy is simple:
There are no sign-ups, check-ins, or anything that requires pre-registration to participate in this event. We were founded with the desire to have as many people feel comfortable about submitting their works.
Works submitted to the event include but are not limited to: fan fiction, fan art, Twitter AU threads, fan videos, music playlists, mood boards, et cetera.
Fan fiction can be posted on any platform. However, we encourage participants posting to AO3 to submit to our exclusive collection to archive as many works submitted to this event in a single place.
Creators? TW/CW your works. It's your responsibility.Readers? Check the TW/CWs. It's your responsibility. That is all.
What are your themes?CLICK HERE FOR FREAK WEEK 2026The 2025 themes were:
Saturday, October 25: VAMPIRES AND WEREWOLVES
Sunday, October 26: GHOSTS
Monday, October 27: ZOMBIES
Tuesday, October 28: WITCHES
Wednesday, October 29: ALIENS/ELDRITCH HORRORS
Thursday, October 30: HUMAN MONSTERS
Friday, October 31: HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! (FREE DAY—ANYTHING GOES)
Every themes are intentionally up for interpretation. This event is not NSFW-exclusive; SFW creations and interpretations are more than welcome. If you find that the themes are too broad to inspire you, we suggest using AO3's randomized tag search to offer some divine inspiration.
Does my content need to be horror-themed?Not at all. There are days you can fit in your less horrific content into, and there is always the free day! We simply ask all content submitted to Spookfest to adhere topically to the theme(s) to which the work is submitted.
Do you only accept fan fic submissions? No! We accept all forms of creations inspired by the event's themes! Works submitted to the event include but are not limited to: fan fiction, fan art, Twitter AU threads, fan videos, music playlists, mood boards, et cetera. However, we must disclose generative AI-made submissions will not be accepted.
Can my work be and stay anonymous?Absolutely. Reveal yourself according to your comfort. We do ask that, if you are submitting through AO3, you add yourself to the "anonymous (anon)" collection as well as ours instead of asking us to keep you on anon. This will allow you the most control over your work, where you don't have to rely upon our availability to take your work off anon (if you so choose).
Does my work need to be complete?Unfinished chaptered works are acceptable, as are art WIPs, etc.
